Bashiri Asad
A Special Night with Bashiri Asad
The house concert with Bashiri Asad was one of those nights that just felt good. This was the second time he has performed a house concert here. And, as far as events happening in Indy, it was kind of the perfect storm. The NCAA Final Four was in town, it was Easter weekend, and there were great shows happening all over Indianapolis. But honestly, sometimes a smaller, more intimate crowd makes it even better!
Everyone who came got a really special, up-close kind of night.
Soul + R&B Music
Bashiri and the band were incredible!
Backed by a stellar group of musicians, Bashiri delivered a set that blended his original music with beloved soul and R&B classics. On electric guitar, Graham Helft brought standout moments with soulful solos that pulled the audience right in. Taj St. Helene, who also played at Bashiri’s last house concert here in 2023, laid down smooth, steady bass lines that grounded the sound beautifully. Mike Dixon, a young and incredibly talented keyboardist, added depth and texture throughout the night. And, Justin Brewer on drums kept things smooth all night.
Bashiri mixed in originals with classics like “Love T.K.O.” (Teddy Pendergrass) and “I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know” (Donny Hathaway). There were times when everyone was quietly listening and times of energy when the audience sang and clapped along.
Good People, Good Energy
The guests included mix of regulars and some new faces, which is always my favorite. My mom and my oldest sister Lisa from NC even came. This was my sister’s first house concert, and I think she enjoyed herself! My dog, Dahlia did her usual job. Circling the rooms, greeting everyone, and getting all the love, attention, and pets a dog could want. By the end of the night, it felt like everyone was part of something together.
Thank You
Seriously, thank you to everyone who chose this over all the other things going on. It means a lot, and it’s what keeps these concerts going.
Supporting local artists in moments like this is what keeps live music alive and thriving. It was such a great night of music and time spent together.
