The Wilder Flower

We were lucky to welcome The Wilder Flower to Clear Vibes House Concerts while they were making their way through the Midwest on a busy summer tour. Fresh off a performance at the Sugar Maple Festival in Wisconsin, they brought an afternoon of outstanding bluegrass music to a full house here in Indianapolis.

The Wilder Flower started about five years ago when Madeline Dierauf and Molly Johnston began playing together after meeting at a fiddlers convention in South Carolina. Now joined by guitarist Audrey Neel, the trio blends Appalachian tradition with original songs that feel both timeless and fresh. Molly is an especially gifted songwriter, and her writing gives the band a sound all their own.

One fun moment came when they played their song "Little Flowers" and realized they were performing in Indianapolis' Little Flower neighborhood. A pretty fitting coincidence.

The room was filled with regular house concert guests, several local musicians, and some first-time visitors. As always, it was wonderful to see people gathered simply to listen.

They may have only been together for about five years, but they're already making a name for themselves on the national bluegrass scene. After hearing them in our living room, I have a feeling we'll be seeing The Wilder Flower's name a lot more in the years ahead.
