A Spooky House Concert with Live Original Chamber Music Scores to Silent Horror Films
A Wonderfully Weird Evening of Music
On October 28, I hosted a fun, wonderfully weird Halloween house concert at Clear Vibes House Concerts! And this one was unlike anything I've hosted before.
Forward Motion brought something truly unique to my living room, performing their original musical scores live to vintage silent horror films that were projected onto a big screen. Think classic silent cinema meets live chamber music, with a little Halloween spookiness mixed in!
It was an intimate experience you don't find just anywhere, and I loved being able to share something so creative and different with my guests.
Classic Silent Films Meet Original Live Music
The evening featured five vintage films, each accompanied by original music composed and performed by Forward Motion.
The lineup of films included:
Ghosts Before Breakfast (1927)
Frankenstein (1910)
Voyage to the Moon (1902)
The Portrait (1915)
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1912)
Watching these early films was fascinating on its own, but hearing the musicians perform their original scores live added an entirely different dimension to the experience. Without spoken dialogue, the music plays such an important role in setting the mood, building suspense, and bringing the stories to life. The musicians responded to the action on screen, creating an experience that was part concert, part movie night, and completely unexpected!
An Experience Worth Being There For
One of my favorite things about this show was hearing how many guests had never experienced anything like it before. Even some of my longtime returning house concert guests said it was their favorite show yet!
That's one of the things I love about hosting these concerts. I get to introduce people to talented local musicians and share creative experiences they might not otherwise encounter.
Photos and videos can give you a little taste of the evening, but they really don't do it justice. You had to be there to appreciate the combination of the films, the live music, and the atmosphere of watching it all unfold together in my living room.
Meet Forward Motion
A huge thank-you to the talented musicians of Forward Motion for bringing this creative and wonderfully unusual performance to Clear Vibes House Concerts!
The ensemble featured:
Eric Salazar – Clarinet
Jenna Page – Flute
Angela Pulliam – Violin
Ashton Vickery – Piano
Each musician contributed to an evening that was imaginative, engaging, and a whole lot of fun. I'm grateful they shared their original compositions and talents with my little house concert community. They even took time to answer questions and talk about their process for composing these scores.
Be sure to keep an eye out for their other performances and find opportunities to support these amazing local musicians!
You never quite know what you're going to experience at Clear Vibes House Concerts, and that's part of the fun.
Thank you to Forward Motion for an unforgettable Halloween evening and to everyone who came out, supported the musicians, and made the night special.
Cheers to more live music, creative surprises, and wonderfully weird experiences!
