Featuring Jess Jones, Cam Pierce, Molly Milton, and Jade Davidson

One of the things I love most about hosting songwriter rounds is that no two songs or songwriters are alike. This Sunday afternoon house concert brought together four talented artists, Jess Jones, Cam Pierce, Molly Milton, and Jade Davidson. It was a time of sharing original music.

It was a hot July day, making the cool, air-conditioned listening room an especially welcome place to gather. Friends old and new, including several musicians who came as guests to listen, settled in for an afternoon of music, conversation, and discovery.

A Format That Celebrates Original Music

Songwriter rounds are a unique concert format. Everyone benefits.

The artists have the opportunity to share their own songs while also hearing the work of their peers. The audience gets to experience several completely different musical styles in a single afternoon and often discovers artists they may not have heard otherwise.

This round was unique because, although three of the four songwriters are part of Indiana's music community, none of them had actually met before.

It was wonderful to watch those introductions happen naturally through music. Between songs, the artists listened intently, exchanged stories, complimented one another's writing, and appreciated the creativity each person brought to the room.

It is so refreshing to watch musicians genuinely enjoy and encourage each other's work.

Four Distinct Voices

Each songwriter brought a completely different perspective and sound to the afternoon.

Jess Jones has been a fixture in the regional music scene for years. A full-time working musician with multiple albums to his name, Jess blends thoughtful songwriting with expressive harmonica playing that adds another dimension to his performances.

Cam Pierce traveled from Nashville, where he performs both solo and with his band. His country and western songwriting reflects life, and his album Lonely Horses even inspired one of the afternoon's memorable musical moments. Cam also shared memories of playing at Duke's, the beloved Indianapolis honky-tonk that has since closed. Its loss displaced many musicians and left a void that has not been replaced.

Molly Milton has been sharing her original music for only about five years, but she's already developed a thoughtful approach to performing. She mentioned that she sometimes chooses her next song based on what the previous songwriter played. After Cam performed a song about horses, Molly followed with one of her own featuring horses. This fun, spontaneous connection made the round feel even more conversational.

Jade Davidson has soulful, blues-inspired songwriting. She mentioned that the guitar she had planned to bring had broken so she brought her electric and a small amp. Everyone agreed it was the right move because she sounded great! Her songs are rooted in real experiences, and she has a remarkable way of telling deeply personal stories with honesty, creativity, and emotion. It's always a treat to hear her perform.

Music Starts Conversations

One of the most rewarding parts of a songwriter round is watching the interaction between the artists themselves.

Every songwriter has their own voice, their own influences, and their own way of communicating through music. Hearing those differences side by side gives everyone a deeper appreciation for the craft of songwriting.

Throughout the afternoon, the artists listened closely to one another, laughed together, exchanged ideas, and celebrated what made each person's music unique.

That spirit of curiosity and mutual respect is exactly what makes these house concerts so meaningful.

House Concert Day Isn't Complete Without Dahlia Dog!

Dahlia was thrilled to welcome everyone through the front door, happily greeting guests before settling in to enjoy another afternoon surrounded by friends and music. She's become an important part of the house concert experience, and many guests look forward to seeing her just as much as the performers. Dahlia even got to be in the group photo this time!
